R\u00f6r\u00f6 has a long tradition of sea rescue. The station was established here in 1917, one of the first on the west coast with a permanent crew during the winter months. For over a hundred years, volunteers on the island have been saving lives at sea, and their commitment is just as strong today. <\/p>\n\n
The station is staffed by more than thirty volunteer sea rescuers who are on call around the clock and ready to leave the quay within fifteen minutes. All work is carried out on a voluntary basis, without government funding, and is supported by members and donors. <\/p>\n\n
The fleet at R\u00f6r\u00f6 currently consists of several modern rescue vessels, including Rescue Mercedes Sanne Eliasson, Rescue M\u00e4rta Collin and Rescue Marianne Bratt. Together with smaller units such as Rescuerunner and environmental rescue trailers, they make the station well equipped for missions in the sometimes harsh conditions of the archipelago. <\/p>\n\n
Over the years, RS R\u00f6r\u00f6 has been involved in many dramatic rescue operations. Most recently, in 2024, the station’s volunteers were honoured as \u2018Sea Rescuers of the Year\u2019 after a heroic rescue of a person from icy water at night. Events such as these demonstrate the strong preparedness and local support that exists on the island.
