Welcome to Sion
Sion is an independent congregation affiliated with the Pentecostal Church. The congregation was founded in the 1920s in connection with the growth of the Pentecostal revival. On 9 June 1928, the congregation was founded by 16 people, and Emil Karlsson was elected as its leader. The church building was inaugurated in August 1930.
Today, Sion is a modern church with members who share their lives with their fellow human beings and love Jesus. We are located in modern, functional premises and welcome everyone to fellowship and faith.
‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ John 3:16

Children & Family
Children are our future and are always welcome at Sion. Children have open minds and often a natural belief in God. ‘Let the children come to me and do not turn them away,’ said Jesus. Our congregation strives to live by these words.
Moving forward, Sion will expand its work with children and young people by:
Children’s & Family Services
Children’s & Youth Gatherings
Singing & music, play, fellowship and devotions at the children’s level.

Mission
For Christian congregations in general, missionary work in other countries has been important. People with a calling have been sent to distant places to help people in need and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. In recent years, congregations have increasingly begun to collaborate with local churches and congregations. The advantage is that they know the language and understand the culture, which enables them to take action quickly.
The Sion congregation on Rörö is currently involved in missionary and aid work in several locations around the world. Zion’s international work is carried out in collaboration with various churches and aid organisations in the municipality of Öckerö. Several local companies in the municipality are involved and contribute financially.
Sri Lanka, Light House Church
Congregational work and social work
MAF Mission Aviation Fellowship
Mission flights/air ambulance flights in roadless areas in various countries in Africa, including South Sudan and Kenya
Romania, Galati
The Filadelfia Zionist congregation in Galati is the hub for Zion’s relief efforts in Romania’s Danube Delta and in Ukraine. The work has become extensive due to Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. In Ukraine, Zion has established a ‘Food Programme’ that provides regular assistance with food, clothing, blankets, generators and stoves to internally displaced persons in the regions of Mykolayiv, Kherson, Kharkiv and Odessa. Medical supplies, hygiene items, etc. are also being sent. The aid is distributed through various churches. Sion has been on site several times and follows up on the efforts almost every week.
In autumn 2025, a fully equipped ambulance was delivered.
In 2024, we were able to send a truck to Galati.
In 2023, a newly built church was inaugurated in the village of Viziru.
In 2021, we were able to send out the Christmas boat ‘Aurora Filadelfia’. The boat serves the congregation’s important work among children and young people as well as Ukrainian refugees in the Danube River Delta.

Give a gift
Sion’s activities, both locally and globally, are based on voluntary commitment and giving. We want to encourage the biblical principle of thoughtful and regular giving – each according to their ability. Together, we have the opportunity to financially support various projects and initiatives in our local area and around the world.
