Live like a local

Be inspired by the people who live here – the people who know Rörö inside and out, from the big adventures to the little gems by the sea. Discover the island through their eyes, find your own favourite places and get to know real life, as it is lived here every day.

On Rörö, people do things at their own pace.

Here, time is not measured in hours, but in weather and light.
People live close to nature, but also close to each other.

Let the wind decide whether you take a walk along the paths through the hills, walk around the road, have an ice cream in the café or sit and lie on the liar’s bench.

Perhaps a dip at the cliffs or a coffee at the harbour while the boats dock, greet those you meet and assist when something needs to be done.

Here, people build associations together, keep the shop going, mow the football pitch and take care of each other.

The island may be small, but it is home to big hearts and a lot of drive.

That’s what keeps Rörö from ever really standing still; it just takes a few deeper breaths between breaths.

Do as the islanders do: let tranquillity set the pace,
but keep your hands busy and your eyes on the horizon.
Work when there is work to be done, rest when you need to, take time to watch the light shift across the sea.

Here, it is not tranquillity that shapes life,
but its rhythm, which follows the waves, the seasons and the people who have chosen to stay. On Rörö, you don’t need to plan every minute. Do as the islanders do and let the island show you the way.

Local tips

Trappan

A little further south, in the southeast, is Trappan, where a staircase leads down into the water towards a soft sandy bottom. It is a popular spot among both islanders and bathers on sunny days.

Up on Möddarn, the landscape opens up and you can imagine that this is where the old football pitch used to be, a barren but unexpectedly airy space between the mountains.
