Rörödagen

The Park

Summer folk festival

The weekend after Midsummer, it’s time once again for one of the most beloved traditions on Rörö – Rörö Day. The day is organised by Rörö IF and brings together islanders, summer visitors and tourists for a day filled with competitions, laughter and community spirit.

Preparations begin on Friday evening. Everything is gathered – tents and tables are assembled, courses are marked out and the area is prepared for Saturday. The members of Rörö IF do all the work and keep the big machine running, from the first screw to the last ball. They are the heroes of the day, and without their commitment, Rörö Day would not be possible.

The festivities kick off early with children’s boules on Friday evening. The park is filled with rolling balls, echoing laughter and children testing their strength with their sights set on the coveted trophy. For those who don’t play, there are games, a lottery and hot dogs on the side – a warm and lively start to the weekend.

As Saturday morning dawns, the boules are polished and the players gather in the park for the big boules tournament. Here, experienced players and enthusiastic amateurs meet side by side, and the matches continue from mid-morning until late evening. The spectators stand close together around the courts, cheering, laughing and enjoying the sunshine – it is a day that is as much about community as it is about the game itself.

During the day, there are also various raffles where you can win everything from homemade baked goods and crayfish to prizes donated by local businesses. For children, there are games, competitions and challenges with sweets as prizes – and in the middle of the park stands the large bouncy castle, always filled with laughter and activity.

The aroma of grilled hamburgers spreads throughout the area, and the queue winds its way around, which is typical of Rörö Day.

When the boules final is decided in the evening, people slowly begin to take down the tents, gather up the tables and tidy up. Tired but satisfied, everyone helps out, and the members of Rörö IF once again show why they are the island’s driving force – the ones who make the whole day work, year after year. Rörö Day is more than just a day of competitions and activities. It is a meeting place for the whole island – a time when generations gather, talk, laugh and enjoy the summer together. A day that reminds us of what Rörö stands for: community, commitment and that special feeling of an archipelago summer at its very best.
