History
Rörö Community Centre – a house for everyone
Rörö Församlingshem, which opened on 22 December 1962, has always been a building full of activities.
There is a hostel, library, weaving room, meeting rooms and a place for worship. Anyone who wishes to do so can hire the large or small hall and kitchen for weddings, parties, lectures, theatre or music performances, exhibitions, annual meetings or camps.
It was precisely religious services that were the reason why the house was built in the first place. In 1955, the residents of Rörö joined forces, formed a foundation, raised money and had the house built. It was equipped with a large assembly hall with a stage, a small hall, a kitchen and several smaller rooms. The library and weaving room were started up and a residence was built for the deaconess, who was also skilled in healthcare and a great help on Rörö.
Over the years, the house has been rebuilt, renovated and maintained. The foundation has been transformed into the non-profit association Rörö FörSamlingshem, whose members, through the board, manage, maintain and develop the property. Many people have worked, and continue to work, voluntarily for the house.
Today, the association runs a hostel, rents out premises and organises regular events such as a Christmas bazaar, a summer flea market with auction, fundraising for Children of the World, bingo evenings, troubadour and music evenings. All the money the association receives, except for that donated to Children of the World, goes towards the building.
Rörö Församlingshem is a house for everyone. A meeting place, a local gathering spot, a house for activities, community and creativity where everyone is welcome.
